Changing Webhosts
May 20th, 2008
I have been with X webhost for over 3 years. I don’t know if it is true for all re-sellers but this company has had many downtimes as I could remember. Since I share my space (for free) with 10 other bloggers, I found it too stressful to deal with these downtimes - especially so when their customer service is rather poor.
You might ask why I stayed that long with X webhost. Well, those 3 years were pretty eventful for me. Aside from my busy work schedule, life happened. I had a baby. Anyone (parent or not) can imagine how busy a new mom can get. So X company should be thankful that I didn’t have time to manage my blogging life then.
But enough is enough. After reading various articles and opinions of popular bloggers, I came to decide to move my domains (right now I have 3) to Go Daddy and get my hosting from Dreamhost. Although I had to deal with 3 companies at first, X, GD and DH, I thought that I’d rather go through the birth pains of organizing my websites and eventually settle for what’s the ‘best’ (this is relative of course), rather than take the easy road and regret my choices (again) later on.
With the help of a techie-blogger friend, I was able to move my first blog to DH and I am now in the process of moving my domain to GD and remaining blogs to DH. I am excited to see the end of all of these.
Deciding on which webhost to choose is not easy and I believe there really is no perfect choice. But in the end, what matters is where we will be confident that our sites will be 99.9% up and running and that we are getting the service we are paying for.
I should do a review in six months’ time to see how this setup is working out.
